Temperament

The Wauzer is a very out going, happy and sweet little dog. They are intelligent, affectionate and love to cuddle.  A Wauzer loves your attention and likes to be fussed over and played with. They are a great companion and family dog.  Supply them with a good variety of toys to rotate through so they don't turn to things you don't want them to chew! They love to swim , run and fetch a ball in the back yard.

What does the Wauzer look like?

This dog is a small one at 10 to 20 pounds and standing  9 to 12 inches tall. They have a low shedding double coat. The undercoat is dense and the over coat is longer and more wiry. Common colors are brindle, silver, black, white and red. Their ears can be erect or flop over and they have an undocked tail. A Wauzer's body tends to be long with shorter legs like a Westie. Eyes are brown, the build is stocky with small feet.

How active does the Wauzer need to be?

The Wauzer is a fairly active dog so it will need plenty of exercise opportunities and time in the backyard where they can run and play.  They love to be active but also love their naps in between! Make sure the yard is fenced securely and that it is high enough so they cannot get over the top. A Wauzer's size means they can easily get exercise indoors when weather conditions outside are not favourable.

Do Wauzers train quickly?

The Wauzer is a moderately easy dog to train. They are smart and eager to please. Keep your approach positive, be patient and consistent. Offer treats, rewards, praise to encourage and motivate. It is important to socialize your Wauzer  so that it is at its best with different situations, locations, people and animals.

How much grooming do Wauzers need?

There will be a moderate amount of maintenance and grooming to do with this dog. It is low in terms of shedding, so loose hair is less of an issue. Regular bushing is needed to keep any tangles at bay. They will need regular grooming including clipping and trimming.

What are Wauzers like with children and other animals?

Wauzers are good with children. They play and are affectionate with them as long as the children have been taught how to interact nicely. With socialization they get along fine with other dogs too.
